One view or different views – how to make sure you see the whole picture

Recently I watched a TED talk from 2009 by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: The danger of a single story. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a novelist from Nigeria and in this TED talk she describes growing up in Nigeria and studying in the USA. She has a powerful way to explain how dangerous stereotypes can be and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. Even though the TED talk is not about intercultural issues, I highly recommend it as it addresses how strong “programming” can be and how difficult it is to see different perspectives if you have been hearing one version all your life.
